I. Water Meter Selection Must Meet Standards
Large meters for small flow rates and small meters for large flow rates will reduce meter accuracy and shorten its lifespan.
Rotary vane water meters are commonly used by urban residents and ordinary businesses.
Volume-displacement water meters have high sensitivity and are accurate for small flow rates, but they have high requirements for water quality and are currently mainly used for measuring piped purified water.
For large water users such as factories and mines, electromagnetic water meters and ultrasonic water meters are recommended—they are accurate, require less maintenance, have low pressure loss, and reduce human interference.
For stable flow rates, choose rotary vane or horizontal screw vane water meters; for large flow fluctuations, choose vertical screw vane water meters.
II. Standard Water Meter Installation
Standardized water meter installation is essential. During installation, the safety, convenience, and reliability of the water meter must be fully considered.
* Install on a straight section of the pipeline to ensure full-pipe operation—the straight pipe length at the inlet should be ≥10 times the diameter, and at the outlet ≥5 times the diameter.
Clear any blockages at the inlet and outlet before installation to prevent pipe blockage.
* Outdoor installation requires a protective box, avoiding extremely cold and direct sunlight environments, and taking precautions against freezing in winter.
Install horizontally with an inclination ≤1.5°, with the markings facing upwards and the arrow aligned with the water flow direction.
* Match the installation location and upstream/downstream straight pipe sections according to the water meter specifications, strictly adhering to product usage requirements.
III. Water Meter Maintenance and Optimization
Daily maintenance mainly includes the following aspects:
Checking for leaks at all joints of the water meter components; any leaks should be addressed immediately.
Is the water meter operating normally? Is the sensitive pointer rotating?
Does the water meter glass need cleaning and wiping to ensure it does not obstruct normal readings?
For large-diameter water meters measuring raw water and water meters containing a lot of suspended solids and impurities, the packing filter and filter screen installed at the inlet should be thoroughly drained and cleaned.
