I. Three Core Reasons for Increased Electricity Bills in Winter
1. High Load on Heating Equipment: Air conditioners consume more electricity for heating than cooling, and using auxiliary electric heating or high-power mode consumes even more. Electric heaters and other heating devices also consume considerable amounts of electricity.
2. Increased Electricity Consumption from Hot Water Appliances: Lower water temperatures in winter extend the heating time for water dispensers and storage-type electric water heaters. Storage-type water heaters also repeatedly heat and maintain the water temperature. Setting the water temperature too high also consumes extra electricity.
3. Impact of Tiered Electricity Pricing: Tiered electricity pricing (increasing in three tiers) applies to users who have activated peak-valley pricing. Peak (8:00-22:00) and off-peak (22:00-8:00 the next day) electricity consumption is combined and counted in the tier. Upon entering the second or third tier, the price increases by 0.05 yuan/kWh and 0.3 yuan/kWh respectively compared to the first tier, resulting in a natural increase in electricity bills.
II. Clarification of Three Common Smart Meter Rumors
Rumor 1: Smart meters are intentionally sped up. Truth: Smart meters undergo factory quality inspection, power company inspection, and market supervision, complying with national metrology laws. There is no intentional sped-up.
Rumor 2: The meter's own power consumption is passed on to the user. Truth: The meter's power consumption is included in the grid loss and borne by the power company; it is not accumulated to the user's electricity consumption.
Rumor 3: Smart meters are limited to 5A; exceeding the current limit will cause the meter to run faster. The truth is: the nameplate indicates the rated current and the maximum current, and it still measures accurately when the current exceeds the limit but not the maximum value; the new meter has better metering performance and range.
