Tips for Preventing Water Meters and Pipes from Freezing in Autumn and Winter
I. Preventative Measures: "Wearing Warm Clothes" for Water Pipes and Meters
Outdoor exposed water pipes, meters, and faucets should be tightly wrapped with professional insulation cotton or foam tubing. Apply two layers to joints and bends, and cover the outer layer with waterproof cloth to prevent rain and snow from seeping in and freezing.

Water pipes in dark, well-ventilated areas such as hallways, balconies, and basements can be fitted with insulation sleeves or wrapped with old blankets or cotton wadding to reduce the intrusion of cold air.
Close doors and windows to prevent drafts: Close windows in kitchens, bathrooms, balconies, and other areas near water at night. Install windproof curtains if necessary to maintain an indoor temperature above 0°C.
Turn off water in unoccupied houses: For houses that are unoccupied for extended periods, turn off the main water valve and open all faucets to drain any water from the pipes to prevent freezing and leaks.

II. Routine Maintenance
After using water, gently turn off the faucet to prevent the valve core from freezing.
If the faucet is difficult to turn, do not force it; allow it to thaw first.
Regularly check the water meter and pipe connections. If the insulation layer is damaged, replace or repair it promptly to prevent cold air from seeping in.
III. Post-Freezing Handling: Scientific Thawing to Avoid Problems
After water pipes and meters freeze, never use open flames to bake them, pour boiling water on them, or strike them with hard objects, as this can easily lead to pipe rupture and water meter damage.

Gentle Thawing Method: Pour warm water (below 40℃) in stages onto the frozen areas, or use a hairdryer on a low setting to slowly blow hot air from the faucet towards the water meter to gradually melt the ice.

After thawing, first turn on the faucet to test the water flow. If leaks or water meter malfunctions occur, immediately turn off the main water valve and contact a repairman. Do not attempt to disassemble the pipes yourself.
