Water Meter Verification

There are two methods for verifying water meters:

I.Collection Method Verification

This method involves collecting the water flowing through the water meter in a container, measuring the actual water volume using the static volumetric method or static weighing method, and comparing the measured volume with the meter reading to determine the error.

Specific Operating Steps:

1. Adjust the water meter's minimum pointer to the "0" position or the specified graduation line, and empty the standard volume container to zero.

2. Adjust the rotor flowmeter valve to allow water to flow through the water meter into the standard container at the specified flow rate.

3. When the water meter pointer reaches the preset graduation, or the water level in the container reaches the preset scale, close the valve.

4. After the water level in the container stabilizes, take a reading. If the water meter reading matches the standard volume of the container, the water meter reading is accurate.

II. Time-Flow Rate Verification

This method, also known as the comparison method, determines the total water flow through the water meter by measuring the relationship between flow rate and time. It allows for repeated flow rate measurements within specified time intervals, but must avoid non-constant flow areas at the start and end of the test. The core requirement is high accuracy in both flow rate and time measurements. It is suitable for accelerated wear testing of water meters.


Specific operating steps:

1. Connect the standard meter (master meter) in series with the water meter under test and introduce water at the specified pressure.

2. Conduct all required tests and observe the pointer movement of both water meters.

3. If the reading of the water meter under test matches that of the standard meter, the reading is accurate; if not, repeat the test until it meets the standard.

Traditional comparison methods have low industry acceptance due to interference issues and are only used for rough comparisons in fields lacking volumetric testing equipment or when verifying large-diameter water meters. In recent years, by using stable pressure water sources and eliminating the influence of fluctuating tap water pressure, the verification results of this method have become more reliable.
